Internationally acclaimed artist Jeff Koons has been announced the new artist to create BMW Art Car in what is the 35th anniversary year of the programme.

Jeff Koons was Speaking from his studio in New York , Jeff Koons said: “I always thought it would be an honor to work on a BMW Art Car, I look forward to participating in a tradition set forth by such great artists as Calder, Lichtenstein, Stella, and Warhol.”

The Koons BMW Art Car will be revealed later in the year. Details of the model and preliminary design will be announced in due course.

Buying Advice for a BMW 3 Series – Where to buy, How to buy

So you are now in the market for a new (nearly new) or used BMW 3 Series. It should be an enjoyable experience but so often, what starts as fun, soon turns to headache after heachache and leaves you feeling like all decency in humanity has gone!

It does not need to be like this, and if you are careful about your reserach to start with, should not be.

The BMW 3 Series is one of the most rewarding cars to own as you have great build quality combined with a really superb driving experience that will continue to give pleasure over time. Here are some general tips to think about before making your decision (and hopefully avoiding any headaches)

- Always try to establish a reason the car is for sale. If its from a dealer then not much to say. If it’s private, trust yoru senses, watch the body language of the seller when you as this question. Most people find it hard not to give away clues to rowse your senses if they have something to hide.

- If it is a “M” series car, check the service carefully, read the reports in the service notes and check the parts replaced. The M3 has a lot of oil seals that (of the car has been thrashed) can blow so if these have been replaced, check why. There are lots of other components that you should be aware of too if they have been replaced, ask yourself, “if it normal wear or has it been abused” Use your common sense and make a list of any parts replaced that cause concern so you  can as the advice of someone technical *if you are not.

- If the car has a two bar, check what it has been towing. If it was coupled to something extra heavy then you may want to get the suspension (bushes, shocks etc) checked for extra wear before buying as these can cost a lot to replace

- Look closely at the tyres vs the mileage: are they worn evenly? are they worn as expected for the mileage? Again, this is an area for seeing if the car has been abused.

- Always look at the overall “groomed” nature, look for tell-tale signs if it been cherished. Eg: curbed wheels, untreated stonechips, shoe scratches on the sills,  scratched on the loading shelf in the boot, signs of  heavy carwash use (many car washes are damaging to paint finishes, a car that has been hand washed will not have the circular, minute scratches that happen on some car washes)

- How clean is the oil

- Try to start the car from cold (if it is warm when you get to 1st see it, be aware! – it may sound like  a bag of nails when cold, another sign of possible  mistreatment)

To start off with, diesel engines made by BMW are undoubtedly the smoothest diesel engines among others worldwide. It is a know fact, that BMW diesel engines make the finest diesel-powered cars. The small letter “d” that is inserted in names of BMW models brings in a difference with big results. The BMW 3-series range versus the Mercedes C-class range, is one of motoring’s greatest contests. Meanwhile, the runty bottom of the C-Class range composes a supercharged 1.8-litre petrol or a 2.1-litre diesel. Making the C200K and C220CDI, the better and more powerful variants. The best engine to go in the C-class range is the 224bhp, 3.0-litre diesel, which mixes grunt with civility and range.

Aesthetics

All the big diesel cars in the BMW 3-series range are pretty cool. The only problem is the de-badged 318i with ‘M-Sport’ written all over it, which does not look appealing to many. Given the right spec, the Mercedes C-class – is the only car in the mid-size saloon sector that could even be close to being viewed as ‘cool’.

Quality

The exceptional build quality and general feel, are few of the things that makes the 3-series greatly desired. On the other hand, the C-class is built to be an all-round star. It has a fantastic build, great design, solid engine and transmission set-ups.

Handling

BMW’s 3-series, are great handlers with their rear-wheel-drive only architecture. Ranging from the lowest 318i to the bigger-engined ‘M’ cars, BMW knows how to make a chassis work. BMW’s steering is one of its best asset, the 3-series are perhaps the best series that will give you a sporty-feeling.

Practicality

The touring variants of the 3-series work exceptionally well although they are not the biggest in class. They are equipped with big boot having 460 litres that out-packs a Lexus IS250 at 378 litres. BMW’s are highly practical cars, they don’t generally break, and cope well with high mileages. The Mercedes C-class, are wiser and longer than the car that they replaced. They are also subsequently spacious. Their boot has an average of 475 litres.

The new BMW 330i series coupe, is the automaker’s most popular two-door offering. It is completely redesigned from the 2007 model year. It now comes with a fresher look powered by the new premium turbocharged V6. Only a handful of coupes are good to drive or have such an exceptional engine range such as the new BMW 330i series  It is a two-door car that offers lots of space for four and a reasonable boot.

With its strong performance, sensible running costs, impressive practicality and fine ride and handling, BMW brings you a stunning coupe in its new 330i series. The 335i SE model, is among the favourites. The 335i is built with a new 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder with a single twin-scroll turbocharger, high-precision fuel injection, and an all-aluminium crankcase. Also, it enhances the car to run 60 mph in just 5.3 seconds. It has a motor that produces 300 horsepower at 5800 rpm. Its peak toque is 300 pound-feet, available from a mere 1,200 rpm, all the way up to an impressive 5,000 rpm.

Apart from the 335i, there is also the 230 horsepower 328i Coupe, which is capable of hitting 60 mph in 6.2 seconds, much faster than the previous top-of-the-line 330Ci. The 328xi model brings the table a xDrive all-wheel drive for the first time ever in a BMW coupe series.

The conservative look, however, may find the car more of a two-door saloon rather than a striking coupe. Some may also find the iDrive control system fiddly and the ride quite firm. The new coupe series do not have such wide engine range compared to the saloon or Touring versions of the 3 Series, but you can still choose from four petrol’s and four diesels.

The traditional rear-wheel drive and a near 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution of the coupe gives it a great handling on the road and even on the track. Its over-sized rotors equipped on its high performance brake system will ensure quick stopping. It also has a double-pivot front suspension with spring struts made almost entirely with aluminium combined with a five-link suspension at the rear. Built with a system that adjusts the steering ratio, steering angle and power assistance to the speed of the car, the new BMW 330 Series Coupe brings about a Dynamic Stability Control and Optional Active Steering.

Bmw Efficientdynamics, is it the End of the Hybrid

What was everyone doing when Toyota developed the Prius? With its hybrid technology, the Prius was hailed as the answer to our problems. A cleaner, greener alternative for those who wanted to save the world but still wanted, or needed, a car to drive round it. Other manufacturers seemed to be slow to develop hybrid technology. So what have they been doing while Toyota surged ahead? Well, one manufacturer, BMW, have been taking some of the best bits off the hybrid and combining them with existing technology, to produce much more fuel efficient and therefore much cleaner cars. Cleaner cars that seem to be able to out perform the hybrids in almost all departments.

When you look at it BMW seem to have had one of the harder jobs when it comes to reducing their overall Co2 emissions. They’ve been known for producing large 4 x 4’s and luxury sports cars. Not the type of cars that offer the best solutions to our environmental problems. However, with this clever mix of existing technology and the development of better engines they have managed to reduce their average Co2 emissions by 26g/km, a saving of over a third of a tonne per year for vehicles fitted with EfficientDynamics. So, how have they done it?

Well, first you have to look at the engines. BMW have developed a high precision injection system, that alongside the ultra-light aluminium crankcase and variable twin turbo technology have allowed the models fitted with EfficientDynamics to increase power whilst reducing emissions. Formula One technology that has been developed and proved in the hardest arena in the world.

Stop start technology is another major factor in reducing emissions. Pull up at the traffic lights and the engine on the BMW stops, press your foot on the accelerator and the engine automatically kicks back into life, saving you money and not choking the planet whilst standing still. This clever bit of kit also tells you when the optimum time is to change gear, also adding to the BMW’s frugality.

Lighter materials have not only been used under the bonnet, they’ve also been used in the manufacture of the boot and the roof on some models. Cutting down on the overall weight of the car is not rocket science and it will obviously impact on the performance of the vehicle. Previously, performance was equated with speed, fortunately performance now covers all aspects of the car, including efficiency and economy.

Brake energy regeneration, electric power steering, an electric coolant pump and small flaps that open and close in the front grille to improve aerodynamic efficiency have all contributed in reducing emissions, making BMW a leader in the luxury car market when it comes to complying with the new Euro V legislation that will come into force in the next decade.

So, do we need full hybrids? Well if you break it down to figures alone it is not quite so clear cut. The BMW 1 Series118d EfficientDynamics achieves 62.8 miles per gallon on the combined cycle as opposed to the Prius that manages 65.7 mpg. Co2 emissions are 119 g/km for the BMW, 104g/km for the Prius. However, take into account the batteries that are used to power the Prius and it becomes slightly hazier. Manufacturing processes and the disposal of spent batteries will obviously have an environmental impact and produce plenty of Co2. Is that impact greater than the small advantages gained? The UK government and the British media would certainly like to know and as a result have asked Toyota to supply them with the figures. As of yet Toyota have not been forthcoming.

With all this in mind, BMW will no doubt continue to refine their EfficientDynamics range, no doubt producing more and more frugal variants, with the gap already small does this mark an end to full blown hybrids? Only time will tell.

Here’s a world-first look at the BMW 1 Series Convertible. The four seater is due in Australia mid-next year, according to BMW Australia spokesman Toni Andreevski. And it might be simultaneously rolled out locally with the 1 Series Coupe that was also exclusively revealed in CARSguide last month. I skidded on some water in the road and i drove into the back of a car. the front of my BMW z3 was slightly crushed and needs £1300 to fix it. The other car and driver were fine!!
My question is that he drove of and has only contacted me today for insurance details i was hoping to do this without involving them as my policy would go sky high. Has he left it to late and what happens about the time scale.

Bmw Produces 1 Millionth Engine

BMW Group’s Hams Hall Plant, which is set to make a record number for BMW and Mini, earlier built its one millionth engine since production started in January 2001. The 2.0-litre petrol engine was ordered by a customer for a new version of the BMW 1 Series.

Producing the one millionth engine etches a key milestone in the German automaker’s plant development. It underlines the increasing vitality in the global auto production network of BMW as the automaker endeavors to become the cream-of-the-crop in the production of the four-cylinder engines. These engines, complemented by the BMW cold air intake, are integrated to the automaker’s product lines.

Within hours in the assembly line, the built-to-order engine was shipped to the German automaker’s assembly plant in Leipzig, Germany. The latter is one of six assembly plants of the automaker in five different countries to which the UK plant supplies engines.

“Each and every one of the associates in our thousand-strong workforce at Hams Hall is extremely proud of having contributed to this significant achievement. Following last year’s record output of 217,000 engines, annual production this year is scheduled to go well above 300,000 engines. The plant is going from strength to strength and we are looking forward to building many more engines for both BMW and MINI in the years ahead,” commented Robert Bolam, who took over as plant director at Hams Hall at the beginning of the year.

The one millionth engine assembled at the Hams Hall plant made for a BMW 120i features the BMW High Precision Injection and this is a second-generation direct petrol injection technology that showcases the German automaker’s Efficient Dynamics concept to deliver enhanced power and performance coupled with a significant reduction in fuel consumption and emissions. The fuel consumption of the new Hams Hall-powered BMW120i is approximately 15 percent less than that of the previous model, notwithstanding an eight percent increase in output.

In 2001, during its first year of production, the Hams Hall plant, subsequent to an initial investment of £400 million and with a workforce of 450 associates, manufactured and delivered 70,000 engines. This year, production will easily exceed 300,000 engines with a workforce that now numbers just over 1,000 associates. In the past six months alone, 250 new associates have been taken on to deal with the growing demands resulting from the launch of the highly successful second-generation MINI under BMW Group ownership.

In late 2001, with the launch of the new MINI, the MINI Production Triangle was formed comprising the UK plants at Oxford, Hams Hall and Swindon, with Hams Hall supplying all petrol engines and Swindon the pressings and sub-assemblies to Plant Oxford. Robert Bolam, the Hams Hall’s plant director, has this to say: “The new generation of particularly fuel-efficient engines being built at Hams Hall for BMW and MINI, our continuing investment in the development of our highly efficient production facilities and the commitment of our excellent workforce are factors that give us a really powerful springboard for continued success in the future.”

Bmw Motorrad’s Neck Brace System to Boost Road Safety

The German automaker BMW has worked with African Physician Chris Leatt to produce a device to reduce the risk of neck and spinal cord injuries for motorcycle riders.

The Neck Brace System of the German automaker is made from a mix of Kevlar, carbon fibre and fibre-glass which is a good combination that could deliver supreme strength. The system also is comfortable to wear. This is because a soft, gentle and impact-absorbing foam layer that is placed between the hardened outer casing and the rider. To easily slip the Neck Brace System around the neck, like a collar, two rapid action fasteners are fixed at its side. These fasteners allow for simple handling and easy adjustment.

The Neck Brace System was developed by BMW Motorrad in partnership with South African physician Leatt and his team of accident researchers, bio-mechanics and surgeons. It provides protection by offering a restraining effect if the rider’s head moves greatly forwards, backwards, or to the sides. The rider is also given able to retain freedom of movement needed for riding, with any risk of over-stretching of the neck, in any given direction, significantly reduced. Injuries arising from forces coming down from the helmet to the spine are absorbed by the corrugated edging that surrounds the BMW Motorrad’s system. In essence, the innovative system is engineered to provide optimum protection for the spine during an accident.

Conrad Parker, the National Aftersales Manager of BMW Motorrad, said: “The BMW Neck Brace System is a revolutionary move in terms of motorcycling safety, and is the biggest step forward for rider safety equipment since the introduction of body-armour, the back protector and full-face helmets.” He added, “The launch of this system reinforces BMW Motorrad’s goal to make motorcycling as safe as possible by incorporating new technology in the Rider Equipment range. I am in no doubt that riders the world over will put safety first and welcome the benefits this protective equipment offers.”

Bmw M Sport Badge Now Available for X5

The BMW M Sport trim level is known for its sport-oriented features which make it a favorite among performance enthusiasts. Recently, the said derivative was introduced to BMW’s flagship – the X5. The introduction of the said badging to the luxury SUV is expected to further increase the popularity of the vehicle among SUV faithful followers.

The said trim level gives the SUV more sports-oriented features than the top of the line SE trim level. In fact, the introduction of the BMW M Sport to the X5 also introduced the newest top of the line X5.

The BMW X5 4.8i M Sport, as the top of the line X5 is called, comes equipped with a set of i9-inch V-spoke M light alloy wheels which makes the SUV more appealing. The sports suspension is also a standard feature for the M Sport badge. The presence of this suspension setting means that the vehicle became nimbler than its predecessors. The M aerodynamic styling is also part of the M Sport package. The X5 is designed to reduce drag therefore reducing the load on the engine. Exterior design cues such as the BMW grille, side and quarter panels are enhanced by the aerodynamic M styling.

The color choice for the BMW X5 M Sport is wide with six colors available. These are Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Carbon Black, Monaco Blue, Space Grey, and Titanium Silver. For the cabin of the SUV, Nevada leather upholsteries are available in different colors. Consumers can choose between Black, Grey, Beige and Saddle Brown hues to complement their exterior color choice. The interior trim color can also be changed by consumers from the standard Dark Walnut to Brushed Aluminum, Dark Bamboo or Light Poplar.

Powering the X5 M Sport is a 4.8-liter V8 engine. The powerplant is complemented by BMW’s engine technologies which are the Bi-VANOS and VALVETRONIC variable valve timing. The combination of these gives the V8 engine a power output of 355 hp. That power is enough to propel the SUV to 60 miles per hour from a standstill in just 6.5 seconds. Its top speed is rated at 150 miles per hour.

While the SUV sports a big engine, its engine technologies enable the X5 to become more fuel efficient than Porsche and Audi luxury SUVs. BMW claims that the X5 can run for 22.6 miles on a gallon of fuel in combined city and highway driving. Greenhouse gas emission is also lower than Porsche and Audi SUVs at 299 grams per kilometers traveled.

Bmw Group Sales Rise 7% in May

The Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, popularly known as the BMW AG, is the world’s largest premium carmaker and it increased sales by seven percent to 128,408 vehicles in May. The increase in sales is helped by a sharp rise in demand for the X5 sport-utility vehicle and the revamped Mini, the company announced last Friday.

The sales of its core BMW brand increased 5.8 percent to 108,488 units, while Mini deliveries rose just over 14 percent to 19,864 cars. The deliveries helped the company’s retro-styled model to break the one million mark in sales since its introduction to the market in mid-2001. The automaker overtook DaimlerChrysler AG’s Mercedes division as the world’s biggest luxury-car maker two years ago with the debut of the 1-Series small car, the X3 SUV and a new version of the 3-Series sedan.

In the first five months of 2007, deliveries of BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce brand vehicles rose by 2.1 percent amounting to 580,043 units. BMW Chief Executive Norbert Reithofer has forecast overall group sales will rise at a high-single-digit percentage rate in 2007 to over 1.4 million vehicles, with all three brands posting delivery records. BMW-brand sales rose 5.8 percent from a year earlier to 108,488 units, while Mini sales increased 14 percent to 19,864 cars. The automaker sold 56 Rolls-Royce super-luxury cars however that seems unchanged from a year ago.

BMW introduced the new X5 and Mini at the end of 2006. The company expects sales to reach a record of at least 1.4 million vehicles this year, Reithofer said in April. Additionally, BMW will introduce the Mini Clubman and a new Rolls-Royce car this year.

Audi’s sales rose more than ten percent last month to more than 87,000 vehicles, a record, as demand surged in China and in the United States.

The relaunch of its popular X5 offroader as well as the 3 Series coupe and cabrio derivatives should help spur growth this year, BMW has said. “Demand for these models is above expectations,” the company said in a statement, saying deliveries of the 3 Series coupe had nearly quadrupled versus a year ago and the cabrio model more than doubled.

The X5, a midsize luxury crossover SUV, features all wheel drive and a line of straight-6 and V8 engines. For non-US models, the vehicle features the 3.0 L diesel engine mated to a BMW cold air intake. The 3 Series, on the other hand, is an entry-level luxury car manufactured by the German automaker since 1975. In 2005, the 3 Series is the company’s best selling luxury sedan in the United States with 98,000 units sold.

BMW has also refreshed the 1 Series compact and 5 Series full-sized models in March and rolled out a 3-door version of the 1 Series last month. By comparison, smaller rival Audi earlier this week reported a ten percent increase in deliveries to some 87,000 units, as VW’s premium brand maintained its average monthly sales growth rate of about ten percent this year. The sales are sustained by the demand for its new Q7 sport utility vehicle.

Mercedes Car Group, which includes the Mercedes-Benz and Smart brands, said that sales advanced by 2.9 percent to a record 116,000 cars and sport-utility vehicles in May. Sales rose as auto shoppers bought the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan and an updated version of the two-seat Smart, the Stuttgart, Germany-based automaker said last June 5. A plunge in sales earlier this year at its Smart minicar unit ahead of a model change has resulted to delivery declines, 1.6 percent lower to 500,500 units in the first five months.

Bmw to Source Auto Parts From India

Like several other global auto majors, German luxury automaker BMW will source auto components from India. The company will set up its international purchasing office in New Delhi to procure its worldwide ancillaries requirement.

“We will be setting up an international purchasing office which will be headed by an expatriate to take care of sourcing components for BMW’s global operations,” BMW India President, Peter Kronschnabl, said last Tuesday. Kronschnabl added the proposed international purchasing office will become operational by August this year and will be independent of the company’s purchase unit at Chennai that caters to its India operations.

Kronschnabl added, “Once the sourcing team comes to India, they will study what kind of components to be sourced from here.” BMW India’s purchase unit and the international purchasing office are designed to work individually, in tandem, or in group to create the most feasible approach depending on products. He declined to take a call on the quantum of components that BMW was looking to source from India saying that it was too early to comment. He did not reveal outsourcing targets, but did say that some IT components are being sourced from India.

Kronschnabl added a study is on to find out the feasibility of launching the Mini. Despite it being a “small” car, the Mini would not come cheap – at home in Germany, it costs around Rs 10 lakh, so imports into India as CBU would inflate its price to Rs 18-20 lakh range. The same is the case with the 7-series cars, which are also in the super premium bracket.

The locally assembled 3-series, conversely, is priced between Rs 26.7-32 lakh, whereas for the 5-series would cost Rs 37-42 lakh. The 3-series will still be equipped with cutting-edge features like the improved BMW fuel filter, engines, and radiator plus its enigmatic aura.

The German automaker had revised its sales target for 2007 in anticipation of the positive response to its recently launched 3 Series sedan from the Chennai plant. The sales figure had been revised from about 1,000 cars initially to 1,200 units in India in the calendar year as the company planned to roll out its `5 Series’ models from the Chennai plant by June, Kronschnabl said.

BMW has marked 2007 as the ‘Year of India’ across global operations, and not without reason. The European major has set up an assembly plant at Chennai from where it produces the 3-series and 5-series sedans, committing €20 million investment in the process. But more ventures are on the way.

“BMW is focused on India and we think this market has very good potential. We are evaluating India for our Mini and 7-series cars at the moment. With the premium car segment expected to grow at a healthy rate, we are looking at expanding BMW’s presence here,” Kronschnabl noted. BMW is now thinking of ramping up component sourcing from India as it evaluates the market feasibility for its famous Mini and 7-series cars.

Fiat, Bmw Vantage First Europe 5-month Sales Gain

As drifting demand in Romania and Poland spurred the rise in Germany, Fiat SpA and Bayerische Motoren Werke AG led the first increase in European car sales in five months.

The Brussels-based European Automobile Manufacturers Association said July 13 that in June, new car registrations rose 0.7 percent to 1.54 million vehicles from 1.53 million a year earlier. With 8.51 million vehicles, first-half sales dropped 0.2 percent.

Based in Turin, Italy, Fiat increased sales 9.9 percent to 119,130 vehicles. On the other hand, BMW, the world’s largest maker of luxury cars, built up purchases 6.9 percent to 83,594. As economic expansion stimulates consumer spending, sales in Eastern Europe increased. In Germany, a sales tax increase hurdle potential buyers.

Horst Schneider, an analyst at WestLB in Dusseldorf, said that the European market has a very mixed picture. He added that Germany is still suffering from the drag effect on demand that happened last year before the tax was hiked. He also said that there will be no change in demand until next year.

In Milan, shares of Fiat fell 22 cents, or 0.9 percent, to 23.49 euros. The stock has more than doubled as compared to the figures last year. BMW 2800 parts maker and Munich-based BMW rose 23 cents or 0.5 percent, to 48.89 euros. It has gained 27 percent for the previous year.

In June, Fiat’s market share raised to 7.7 percent from 7.1 percent a year earlier on deliveries of the new Bravo compact, which was available in February, as well as the Grande Punto and Panda models. This year Fiat sales have gained 7.2 percent and the company has hiked European sales for 18 consecutive months.

BMW Chief Executive Officer Norbert Reithofer said in February that he expects pretax profit to increase in 2007, spurred by new versions of the Mini small car, which started its availability in November, the 1-Series car and sport-utility vehicles. BMW’s market share increased to 5.4 percent last month from 5.1 percent.

Eastern European sales jumped 21 percent higher last month, while western European registrations declined 0.6 percent. Sales in Romania flowed 56 percent to 32,679 vehicles, while Poland earned a gain of 23 percent to 25,809 units. German sales decreased 7 percent to 301,108 vehicles.

The government in Poland, Eastern Europe’s largest economy, forecasts growth this year of 6.5 percent. Due to an increase in sales tax to 19 percent from 16 percent at the start of the year, the German carmakers association forecast in July 3 that 2007 sales will jump 7.8 percent down to 3.2 million vehicles.

BMW has Jay Leno as the latest person to receive the keys to a BMW Hydrogen 7 – the first hydrogen-powered luxury sedan in the world.

Jay Leno, an Emmy-winning comedian and host of The Tonight Show received his BMW Hydrogen 7 at his own garage in Burbank, California, according to a source.

Leno said, “As an avid car enthusiast I’m always interested in the future of automotive technology. With the BMW Hydrogen 7 I can experience all the fun and great features of a performance car, yet know that I’m being environmentally friendly at the same time! I look forward to driving the Hydrogen 7 and learning more about hydrogen as a fuel for our future,” acknowledging the benefits provided by the luxury sedan.

Leno’s garage is actually a “green garage” that is supplied with energy from steam power. Giant steam and natural gas engines from the 19th century are used. Both offer efficient reduction on energy needs. That makes the garage a self-sufficient power station. Leno imposed that a garage stuffed with old cars has no reason not to be environmentally responsible, “even if it means having to go back more than a century for the technology”.

Adding the BMW Hydrogen 7 to his collection of cars has been part of Leno’s dedication in improving his garage which is now almost 20,000 sq. ft. in measurement. Bmw – Superior German Quality

BMW stands for “Bayerische Motoren Werke”, this is an independent German company founded in 1922 but it is said that its origins go way back to 1913 or around the years of pioneering German aviation. BMW not only produces vehicles but it also manufactures and distributes high quality motorcycles.

What really is the difference, they seem too similar for BMW to even to bother developing both cars in the first place.

Obviously some people obviously prefer the ‘M’ range of cars, maybe the M3’s engine is tuned for the extra aggressiveness.

Just wondered if anyone knew specific differences because to me it seems odd for BMW to create two cars so similar.

Bmw E30 M3

The BMW M3 was a well thought out car, as development of the car begun as far back as 1981, and continued for almost six years prior to its total production in 1986. The original concept of the BMW M3 was grounded in foundations from the E30 3Series car, a famous performance car with rich background. The E30 M3 later would spawn and encourage numerous other models within the 3 Series. BMW Motorsport, previously produced the E12 M535i Saloons, M635Csi, and the M1 supercar, and those cars were designed for superior racing performance, but those cars could only garner limited appeal. When the decision was made by “FISA’s Group A” confirmed homologation, which stated that “5000 road cars should be produced within 12 months, with minimal changes but allowed changes to be made to the engine, drive train, and body”. The actual production of the M3 took place at BMW, Munich, and BMW easily marketed and sold their 5000 M3’s in order to enter “Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft”(DTM).

BMW created many different versions of the M3 in order to keep the car absolutely competitive under the stated rules, resulting in quite a number of enhanced models being delivered to the general public over a timeframe. The E30 M3 was very different from the remainder of the E30 family all round, especially regarding to appearance and performance. The M3’s suspension was the essential design concept of the traditional E30 along with “gas pressurized dual Boge dampers”, improved springs, along with powerful anti-roll bars positioned at the front and the back. The braking system embodied “Bosch ABS system” working simultaneously with 280mm ventilated discs at the front, and 282mm solid discs at the rear. The E30 M3 had a couple fascinating attributes, which included “Siamese-like pistons”, an additional oil cooler positioned behind the spoiler, “a cast alloy sump”, a unusually long “stroke camshaft” with the stroke (84mm) and the bore (93.4mm), resulting in 2302cc, and unique steering help with “quick ratio steering rack”.

The E30 M3 unfolded as and rebuttal to the “1983 2.3 litres, 16 valve Mercedes Benz W201″, out of which the M3 was more successful despite its big price tag. The M3 kept its heritage on the track radically triumphant as it obtained 12 various touring car championships titles between 1986-1991, and 13 various racing titles between 1987-1993. Over 18,000 various M3s were produced up until when the last cabriolet was turned out in 1991. The BMW X6 SUV: Is It a 4×4 Too Far?

The recipe for the BMW X6 seems quite simple, take the mechanics, size and stature of a 4×4 and then combine it with the body shell of a coupe, which is designed to seat four people.
